If you happen to be in Chicago this Saturday, be sure not to  miss PRINTERS ROW. Now a long-standing perennial event organized by the Chicago Tribune, Printers Row regroups hundreds of Authors, publishers and book sellers in the historic printers row neighborhood in downtown Chicago.

For the complete schedule of events taking place on Saturday (and it is a packed one!), please visit:

This year again, Miss Nyet Publishing will be in attendance, along with Delphine Pontvieux who will be present all day Saturday at the booth to sign copies of ETA-Estimated Time of Arrest, and to talk about ETA’s sequel, which we are planning to release in early 2013.

We will also be selling copies of Pintxatu, the super excentric Basque tapas cookbook which comes with a full cd compilation of Basque bands. In lieu of wine pairings, we link each recipe to a song!

You will also get the opportunity to take a peek at Delphine’s brand new unisex jewelry line, the Anchor pin collection, or Points d’Ancrage, for the first time.

We are looking forward to seeing you all to chat a while and enjoy the weather, which promises to be warm and sunny.

Miss Nyet will be located on Polk street -under a tent booth, this year-, alongside Avendia Publishing.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Chicago Book Expo Puts Abandoned Borders to Good Use

photo via Uptown Update
“There will be no Black Friday sales at Uptown’s Borders this year. Instead, there’ll be something much cooler–and a week earlier to boot, allowing you to digest that Thanksgiving dinner properly. The Chicago Writers House Project is creating a pop-up bookstore in the empty building Nov. 19-20. Featuring more than 40 fiction and poetry presses, Chicago Book Expo 2011 will also include readings, live performances, and architectural walking tours.”

Well, the first Chicago book expo is over, and I must say it was a worthwhile event. Congratulations to the organization crew for their kindness and efforts in making this book fair one that is most certain to return next year. Here is a little report on how it went, along with photos of the event.

Saturday. (10am-6pm)

The day was cold and very windy. The luck (or lack thereof) of the draw was such that we (me and my fellow author/publisher and friend Andre Frieden from Avendia Publishing, along with a good number of Chicago presses and local fiction authors) ended up setting shop in the basement of the Uptown Broadway Building -across the former Borders store instead of within the same building-, which is rumored to be a former speakeasy.

At least, the dark, ominous setting was quite appropriate for thriller writers!

The good news is, I found a new mascot there. How could I describe it? It’s like a lucky charm, only slightly bigger than a rabbit’s foot. Here it is, below.

Sunday (12pm-6pm)

What a difference a new locale makes! Today, we are all sharing the space within the former Borders bookstore. It is well lit, warm and cosy! Great attendance throughout the day, which made for good sales and great conversations with the public. Channel 2 (CBS local news) was also in attendance and filmed my stand (along with my 2010 Oscar award from the French community, which the cameraman really liked!). CCLAP Publishing was also in attendance at the book expo, selling both anthologies “Amsterdamned if you do” and “American Wasteland”, for which I have contributed short stories.

At 3 PM, Andre Frieden, Libby Fisher Hellman and I took part in a reading of excerpts of our respective novels, followed by a 15-minute Q&A about thrillers. The photo below shows Andre, Libby and I after the reading.

The weekend event wrapped up at 6 pm.

I want to thank the Chicago public for braving the weather to come out and support their local writing community. This is probably the first time that so many local authors and small presses were together at the same time under the same roof, and that was an impressive feat. I also got the chance to meet fantastic people there, in addition to seeing old friends again as well as members of the Chicago Writing Association. Looking forward to next year!

at the Grossinger Autoplex 1500 N. Dayton in Chicago

This event is free admission, with complimentary food, drink, entertainment and free valet parking.

Printers Row Lit Fest took place this past weekend (june 4 and 5th in downtown Chicago) and it was a big success on many levels.

Miss Nyet Publishing shared a stand with another Chicago publisher this year, Avendia Publishing.

The stand felt very international, with Andre Frieden selling spy novels set in Russia, North Korea etc and Delphine Pontvieux’s own thriller which takes place in France and the Basque country.  We had a grand time interacting with the public who asked us many interesting questions throughout the weekend.

The weather cooperated this year. Save for a thunderstorm on Saturday evening that cut the day a little short, the weather was sunny and hot all weekend, and Chicagoans were out in full force to participate in the event.

This year at PRLF was especially exciting for us as we celebrated ETA-Estimated Time of Arrest’s win this year (the Indie Excellence Book Award) in the thriller category.

We thank everyone who purchased ETA-Estimated Time of Arrest and Pintxatu over the weekend and we encourage you to write your own reviews on Amazon,, goodreads etc…

Feel free to take a look at the photo gallery.

Back from my book tour in Florida, which was a great success, I want to thank everyone who made it possible, i.e. Coco for the AC/BC book club in Wellington, Michelle and the amazing team at Saks for the Saks Fifth avenue book signing in Palm Beach, Francis at la Cigale for the book signing in Delray Beach, and of course everyone who came to the book signings, and all the AC/BC book club members. Please find below photos of the different events.

AC/BC book club in Wellington, FL:

17 members of the book club were in attendance to discuss ETA-Estimated Time of Arrest with author Delphine Pontvieux.

The house was decorated for the occasion, and Kathy, owner of People Will Talk catering, prepared a special menu for the event. Many of the recipes for the Basque tapas came from the book PINTXATU (available at a special price of 25$ on the Miss Nyet website only,) and the cd compilation that comes with the book provided an energetic soundtrack for the evening.

Book signing at Saks Fifth Avenue:

This was a repeat visit from November 2010. Everything was top notch again, from the gorgeous location of the signing table by the entrance doors, to the sweet treats served with champagne.

As if this were not enough, every person who bought a copy of ETA or Pintxatu (or both!) was given a large Saks Fifth Avenue tote bag (in a choice of turquoise or coral) filled with perfume, beauty creams, make up and haircare samples.

Please click here to view the photos of the event:

Book signing at La Cigale in Delray Beach, FL

Not only La Cigale is a great spot to enjoy a cocktail on any given evening, the French food, with a Mediterranean flair, is absolutely phenomenal and the people who work there are wonderful.

Francis, the owner, and his team had reserved a whole  room to set up the tables for the book signing, and there was a 2-for-1 drink special offered for the duration of the event.

Please click here to view the photos of the event:

Again, thank you, Florida, for a wonderful time.
